I came up with this idea when I was doing a consulting job for Make Meaning, NY earlier this year http://www.makemeaning.com/.  One of my objectives was to come up with jewelry designs that kids, teens and adults could make without the use of tools!  No easy task.  I use tools for everything, believe me!  However, I re-discovered Stretchy Cord, aka:  Stretch Magic.  A wonderful, supple, stretchy cord that comes in many different colors and thicknesses...everything from Clear to Black; .5mm, .7mm, 1mm and up.  I realized that so many of the high-end fashion bracelets and necklaces today are being made with it so I figured I would give it a shot.  To my delight - I found the stretchy cord very easy and fun to work with, and, BEST PART - it enabled me to create "one-size-fits-all" jewelry!  YAY for versatility!  Most craft stores carry Stretch Magic and other similar brands, in an array of colors and sizes.

Armed with my Stretch Magic, some big glass pearls, a few feet of gunmetal link chain and a yard of satin ribbon - the "Gossip Girl" pearl necklace was born!  A beautiful, elegant necklace with a detachable bow that looks EXPENSIVE!!!  I have made several of this design in various colors (Cream, Dusty Rose, Sage Green, Plum) with matching bracelets and earrings.  Here's a little STEP-BY-STEP pictorial on how to make one.  First, you will need the following:

 INGREDIENTS:
30-36 Large (18mm) Glass Pearls - I get mine at SouthSun (30 for a 16" necklace, 36 for an 18" necklace)
http://www.southsun.com/

2 Feet Gunmetal large link chain (also from SouthSun)
2 Feet 1mm Clear Stretch Magic
2 German Silver Bead Caps
12-18" piece 7/8" Black Satin Ribbon
Measuring Tape or Yard Stick
Scissors

Cream Glass Pearls (18mm Size)
My Magic Weapon! (Michael's Craft Store)
German Bead Caps (SouthSun)
Satin Ribbon (buy it at any fabric store)
Gunmetal Chain (SouthSun)

STEP ONE:
String 10 pearls then thread on chain end

STEP TWO:
Thread 6 links of chain between each pearl
Repeat process for 10 pearls
STEP THREE:

Thread on 10 more pearls
STEP 4:
Add a German Silver bead cap to each end & bring ends together

Tie a tight, double knot
Pull knot out slightly
 STEP FIVE:
Snip off ends with scissors
STEP SIX:
Add black satin ribbon (Mood Fabrics)

Tie ribbon in a knot, then a bow
STEP SEVEN:
GOSSIP GIRL IS DONE!
VOILLA!  You have a beautiful, classic, elegant necklace that stretches over your head and stays in place!  No clasp - YAY!  I love wearing this design with a soft cashmere sweater or a pretty blouse.  You can dress it up or down just by removing the bow.  You gotta love versatility these days - it's important to be able to get lots of mileage out of your accessories.  Have fun - try making one!  Or, order one today from Star Candy Designs.http://www.starcandydesigns.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=978
