WHAT I DESIGNED TODAY - VOLUME 8

TODAY'S INSPIRATION...THE HAMPTONS
It's funny, I have only been to New York once for business and I have never been to The Hampton's but I am a big fan of The Food Network - in particular Ina Garten's cooking show called "The Barefoot Contessa".  Ina cooks these wonderful meals effortlessly in her beautiful crisp white kitchen at her home in the Hamptons and then carefully transports her food out to the beach to serve her bubbly guests.  It looks like such a beautiful, serene, happy setting and I definitely have it on my list of places I would love to go to someday!

The Hamptons, New York
I started thinking about all of the colors in these photos...the soft beige sand; the cool blue water; the lovely pops of turquoise and bright green grasses and I started laying out beads in these color tones.  A friend of mine recently told me that her girlfriend can't wear jewelry because she has metal allergies so I decided to experiment and make this next necklace / bracelet out of leather and beads only - no metal, no clasp.  I started with some bone/ivory colored 1mm leather cord which represents the soft beige sand and I fashioned a loop at the end by repeating a series of slip knots...
The Hamptons Bracelet - Metal Free Clasp
The rest of the bracelet is made in my usual whimsical style by knotting various Swarovski Crystals, Czech Crystals, hand-made Italian Moretti Glass Beads (don't you just love these pretty glass lentil beads?) and some larger, round stabilized Turquoise beads.  When I got to the end of the design, I used the final Turquoise bead as the securing end which would fit through the loop.  This particular design is about 24" so that it will wrap comfortably around the wrist 3 times and create that chunky cuff look.  The nice thing about the leather cord is that it stretches slightly and then sort of springs back to shape.
