It was so much fun to have the opportunity to attend the 16th Annual Broadcast Film Critic's Awards again this year (also known as The Critic's Choice)! These awards mean a great deal to the NOMINEES because the votes all come from the Movie Critics and Entertainment Reporters. I started going to this event about 6 years ago, when my sister's good friend Ms. Bobbie Wygant, Entertainment Reporter in Dallas, TX, asked me to be her 'date'. Bobbie is a widow, in her mid 80's now and is still a working girl! If you get a moment, click on the link below to her archive of work - it's so impressive and inspiring to see what this woman has done in her lifetime! She was the FIRST female host of 'Dateline NBC' and is a legend in her field. It is such an honor for me to be able to attend this show with Bobbie. Going to the BFCA's has become a yearly ritual that I look forward to and it's always so much fun making decisions on what to wear; i.e. what jewelry; shoes; etc. How will I do my hair? Will I wear false eyelashes and go total glam with my makeup? Will I go short, cocktail length, or, long and flowing? Will I wear color or play it safe with basic black? So many fashion decisions to make!
As you can see, this year I opted for color! Blue has always been one of my favorite colors and I remembered that I had this vintage periwinkle blue beaded cocktail dress in my wardrobe from years gone by. The last time I wore it, was to a wedding when my daughter Hannah was only 11 mos. old! She is now 16 if that tells you anything! This dress is probably a little shorter than I would normally go at my age but hey, I decided to go for it! It has a square neck and a lower square back which is very flatterring - as long as you stand nice and tall and throw your shoulders back! Posture is everything with this dress. I wore a pair of Steve Madden taupe pumps from DSW that had about a 4" heel and a 1" platform and, I have to say, they were quite comfortable. I was so glad I didn't wear the strappy silver shoes I was originally going to wear, or, black patent pumps, as the taupe shoes really elongated my legs and made the dress so much more flatterring. I paired my dress with an elegant pearl and crystal necklace that is currently on SALE on my website:
I finished the look with a set of 3 clear crystal & silver stacked stretchy bracelets which I literally made in about 20 minutes! I felt really fabulous wearing color - despite the fact that most women at this event were dressed in dark colors - many in black of course. My sister, fashiondesigner Erin Pennacchio, also wore a beautiful bright color. She made this Indian Inspired gown that was a rainbow of orange, pink and gold with a beautiful gold thread motif running throughout the fabric. She also made a gorgeous pink shantung silk wrap to wear over her shoulders and finished her look with a pair of crystal earrings from my bridal collection and a lovely gold clutch purse.
